Callum William Murray

I was lucky to catch Callum at about two weeks old here and in great form. He is so much smaller than my other nephew and not just because of time difference. This is my brothers son but couldn't get all the family taken on the day, Billy and Alex were missing. So Callum and his mommy Janice got snapped. Can't wait to get back and take some more photos. He seemed to enjoy it and is so photogenic.

I used my Nikon D70s for all these shots, using extra flash as well for more exposure. I converted a few into black and white, mainly as I just like experimenting with various styles. Think they turned out alright.

My sister Aisling gave birth to the most happy go lucky baby about six months ago now. He is so funny, though looking at these photographs of him you wouldn't think so. He was just after a feed and not in the best of moods, like all learning curves - finding out when the best time to take photographs of babies is always a tough one. I have discovered that directly before and after feeds is not a good time, before a nappy change - not a good time. Just after waking up and close on nap time - definitely not a good time. And as these are all the usual activities a new baby does, it's sort of hard to find any time that is a good time. Luck and a camera ready on hand is possibly the best way forward.




I must make another trip up to see them again, though I do call every other week to get my 'fix' of him (I usually have no camera). It's always addictive to visit someone who gets excited to see you and he always does. Great ego boost.

Movement

It's been quite a while I know since I posted any photographs. The weather here hasn't been the greatest and this pregnancy had my concentration span at around 5minutes, so was never in the mood for going out in the cold and rain to take landscapes. I have been practising my people shots though and what with the two new babies (so far) in our family, it's been great taking those types of pictures for a change.

The ones here are of Ben when we were in London, we went to a beautiful park where the squirrels were plentiful and one inparticular took a shine to Ben, actually chasing him at one point.



This was also taken at the same park, Ryan sat down on the grass with a small amount of bread to feed the squirrels. Even after it was gone, the squirrels still came very close. He was delighted and it made for a lovely photograph.
